Raipur, India — Tragic news has emerged from Raipur’s Jungle Safari as Bijli, the much-loved tigress, passed away during treatment at the Vantara Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre in Jamnagar. The eight-year-old tigress had been battling severe health issues, including a uterus and oral infection, for several months.
Vantara Confirms the News on Social Media
The official confirmation of Bijli’s death came through a post shared by Vantara, the Jamnagar-based animal rescue and rehabilitation facility. The organization stated that despite the best efforts of the veterinary experts and round-the-clock medical care, Bijli could not survive.
According to reports, Bijli had been under observation for over a month at the Vantara facility. Specialists had been administering intensive treatment, but her condition continued to deteriorate.
Health Deterioration and Transfer to Jamnagar
Sources from Jungle Safari revealed that Bijli’s health had been declining steadily, prompting initial treatment efforts in Raipur. However, when no significant improvement was observed, forest officials decided to transfer her to Jamnagar for advanced medical attention.
The transfer was a carefully coordinated operation. With assistance from the South East Central Railway division, special arrangements were made to transport the tigress in a customized coach of the Howrah–Ahmedabad train. Senior railway officials, including Divisional Commercial Manager Awadhesh Kumar Trivedi and Divisional Railway Manager Dayanand, facilitated the process in coordination with the forest department and Vantara’s expert team.
Medical Supervision and Expert Involvement
Before her transfer, Bijli’s treatment in Raipur was supervised by a panel of wildlife specialists. The forest department had earlier issued a statement confirming that a dedicated medical team was continuously monitoring her condition. Despite all possible interventions, her health did not improve as expected.
Once admitted to Vantara, Bijli underwent a series of medical tests and therapies. The rescue centre, known for its advanced wildlife care infrastructure, provided specialized treatment protocols. Unfortunately, her prolonged illness and weakened state proved too severe to overcome.
Post-Mortem and Investigation Underway
Forest officials have confirmed that a team of veterinary experts and forest officers will conduct a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The final post-mortem (PM) report will clarify the medical reasons behind the tragic loss.
Authorities at Jungle Safari expressed deep sorrow over the incident, acknowledging Bijli’s popularity among visitors and wildlife enthusiasts. Many locals and wildlife lovers have taken to social media to express condolences and share memories of the tigress who had become a favorite attraction.
