Mann Ki Baat

New Delhi, India:
In the 127th episode of his monthly radio program Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi connected with citizens across India, sharing insights on festivals, environmental protection, Indian culture, and youth leadership. The Prime Minister’s address on Sunday carried a powerful message — one that celebrated both the spirit of Indian festivals and the nation’s growing commitment to sustainability.

Festival Season and National Pride

PM Modi opened his address by acknowledging the festive mood across the nation, as people celebrate Diwali and Chhath Puja with joy and togetherness. He shared how citizens have written to him expressing excitement about the ‘Operation Sindoor’ and the GST Savings Festival, highlighting how people are embracing local products and adopting more mindful consumption habits.

He appreciated the positive public response towards buying Made-in-India goods and reducing dependency on imported edible oils — a small but significant step towards a self-reliant India.

Cleanliness and Environmental Inspiration

Continuing the conversation on Swachh Bharat and environmental awareness, PM Modi shared some inspiring local examples.
He mentioned Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh, where a “Garbage Café” offers meals in exchange for plastic waste — a creative way to promote cleanliness and recycling.

In Bengaluru, engineer Kapil Sharma and his team have rejuvenated 40 wells and 6 lakes, bringing together local communities and corporate partners for large-scale tree plantation drives. Modi praised such community-driven efforts as shining examples of India’s eco-conscious citizens.

Dholera’s Mangrove Miracle: Gujarat Leads the Way

One of the key highlights of this episode was PM Modi’s mention of Dholera in Gujarat, where a remarkable environmental success story is unfolding.
He explained how mangroves — the salt-tolerant trees found along coastlines — are essential for preserving marine ecosystems. They act as natural shields against tsunamis and cyclones, helping prevent coastal erosion and protecting biodiversity.

Recognizing their importance, Gujarat’s Forest Department launched a mangrove plantation campaign near Dholera five years ago.
“Today, mangroves have spread across nearly 3,500 hectares along the Dholera coast,” PM Modi said. “These mangroves have rejuvenated the ecosystem, leading to a rise in the population of dolphins, crabs, and migratory birds. Even local fishermen are now witnessing the benefits.”

He further added that similar efforts are underway in the Kutch region, where the Kori Creek Mangrove Learning Centre has been established to educate people about coastal ecology. Modi emphasized that trees — regardless of where they grow — contribute to the well-being of every living being.

He quoted ancient Sanskrit verses that honor the selfless nature of trees and encouraged citizens to join the ‘One Tree for Mother’ (Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam) campaign, a movement dedicated to planting trees in tribute to one’s mother.

Celebrating India’s Indigenous Dog Breeds

PM Modi also highlighted the role of Indian dog breeds in the country’s security forces. He praised the BSF and CRPF for training native breeds and ensuring their names reflect Indian culture. These dogs, he noted, have proven their loyalty and strength, serving as valuable partners in national security operations.

Run for Unity and Remembering Sardar Patel

Inviting citizens to take part in the ‘Run for Unity’ on October 31, the Prime Minister paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 150th birth anniversary. He encouraged everyone — especially the youth — to participate in the run as a symbol of national integrity and collective strength.

Promoting India’s Coffee Heritage

The Prime Minister then turned to a lighter but equally proud topic — Indian coffee.
He spotlighted Koraput Coffee from Odisha, which is gaining global recognition for its unique aroma and flavor. Modi remarked that coffee grown across various parts of India is now earning international acclaim, making the country’s coffee farmers proud contributors to India’s global agricultural identity.

150 Years of Vande Mataram: A National Milestone

Marking a historic occasion, PM Modi reminded listeners that this year marks the 150th anniversary of India’s national song, “Vande Mataram.”
He reflected on how the song ignited patriotism during the freedom movement and continues to inspire generations with its message of devotion to the motherland. The Prime Minister invited citizens to share ideas on how to celebrate this special milestone meaningfully.

Reviving Sanskrit and Cultural Heritage

Acknowledging India’s linguistic and cultural depth, Modi expressed delight at how the younger generation is reviving Sanskrit through creative projects and digital innovations.
He emphasized that language is the carrier of a civilization’s values, and Sanskrit — as one of the world’s oldest languages — embodies India’s spiritual and cultural wisdom.

Remembering Tribal Heroes and Local Legends

PM Modi paid homage to tribal icons like Komaram Bheem and Birsa Munda, urging the youth to learn from their courage and contribution to India’s history.
He highlighted how Mann Ki Baat serves as a bridge between ordinary citizens and the nation, allowing people to share stories of unsung heroes, community changemakers, and inspiring initiatives.

A Message of Hope and Collective Responsibility

He thanked listeners for their continued engagement and promised to return next month with new stories and ideas that celebrate the spirit of New India — progressive, sustainable, and united.
