Bhavnagar witnessed a major anti-corruption breakthrough after the Bhavnagar ACB captured a police constable and another individual red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹1.50 lakh. The bribe was allegedly demanded to reinstate a dismissed employee and release his pending salary. Out of the total demanded amount of ₹2 lakh, the first installment of ₹1.50 lakh was being collected when ACB officers executed a planned trap and arrested the accused on the spot. Meanwhile, two other individuals named in the corruption case are currently on the run.

According to official details, the complainant had earlier served as a Cluster Coordinator. He was allegedly approached by Dasharathsinh Panchabhai Chauhan, a Class-III Extension Officer in Shihor Taluka Panchayat, who demanded ₹2 lakh to reinstate him back into the job, ensure pending salary payment, and prevent any police complaint against him. Unwilling to pay the illegal gratification, the complainant decided to approach the Anti-Corruption Bureau for help.

Following the complaint, Bhavnagar ACB set up a strategic trap. During the investigation, Dasharathsinh Chauhan communicated with the complainant’s friend and directed that the bribe amount be delivered through middlemen identified as Ruturajsingh, Jigar, and Virendrasinh. The trap was later staged on the first floor of Agarwal Eye Hospital where money was expected to exchange hands.

As soon as the transaction took place, the ACB team moved in. Ruturajsingh Dhirubhai Parmar, a Class-III Police Constable, and Jigar Jayantibhai Thakkar, a private individual, were caught red-handed while accepting ₹1.50 lakh. Both accused were arrested immediately and taken into custody after forensic confirmation of the tainted currency.

However, the two key accused — Dasharathsinh Chauhan (Extension Officer) and Virendrasinh Prahladsinh Gohil (private person) — fled before the ACB could detain them. Intense efforts are currently underway to locate and arrest them.

The operation was executed by D.A. Chaudhary, Police Inspector, ACB Gandhinagar Police Station, under the supervision of D.A. Chaudhary, Deputy Director, ACB Gandhinagar Unit. Authorities have confirmed that further investigation will focus on financial trail analysis, involvement of additional individuals, and institutional integrity checks within the local administrative system.

With corruption cases continuing to surface across multiple government departments in Gujarat, this successful operation by the Bhavnagar ACB reinforces the state’s stand toward transparency and zero tolerance for bribery. Officials have urged citizens to report any corruption-related activity without hesitation, assuring confidentiality and strict legal action against offenders.
