Bhavnagar News Today: In a shocking incident in Bhavnagar’s Desainagar area, a man was brutally killed by his father-in-law on Monday after returning from a court hearing. The victim, identified as Suresh Sharadbhai Rathod (45), was attacked with a knife in broad daylight, allegedly by his father-in-law Mansukh Parmar. The two families had been involved in a long-running domestic dispute that had reached the family court.
Long-standing family dispute turned deadly
According to reports, Suresh Rathod, a resident of Hadanagar, Bhavnagar, earned his living by driving an auto-rickshaw. Around 17–18 years ago, he married Meena, the daughter of Mansukh Parmar, who lived in the same locality. The couple had two sons together.
However, over the past five years, tensions had been growing between Suresh and Meena. Due to frequent quarrels, Meena left her husband and began living with her parents. Eventually, she filed a case in the Bhavnagar Family Court, seeking divorce and alimony.
Attack happened after court appearance
On October 15, both Suresh and Meena appeared before the Family Court for a scheduled hearing. After completing the court proceedings, Suresh was returning home in his rickshaw when tragedy struck. Near the Desainagar petrol pump, Mansukh Parmar, accompanied by his sons (Suresh’s brothers-in-law), confronted him.
An argument broke out in the middle of the road, which quickly escalated. In a fit of rage, Mansukh allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Suresh multiple times, killing him on the spot. Witnesses reported that the attack was sudden and violent, leaving the victim no chance to defend himself.

Police investigation and official statement
Upon receiving information, the Bor Talav Police immediately rushed to the scene. Officers conducted a preliminary investigation, recorded statements from eyewitnesses, and sent the body to Sir T Hospital for postmortem.
Speaking about the case, City DYSP R.R. Sindhal confirmed that a murder had taken place within the Bor Talav police jurisdiction. “The victim, Suresh Rathod, was married to Meenaben about 17 years ago. A family dispute led to ongoing court proceedings for divorce and maintenance. Out of anger, the father-in-law, Mansukh Parmar, attacked and killed Suresh with a knife. The police have started an investigation and are recording statements from the deceased’s brother, Nitin Rathod,” Sindhal said.

Father-in-law absconding after the incident
Following the murder, Mansukh Parmar fled the scene. Police teams have been deployed to track him down, and a manhunt has been launched in nearby areas. The authorities are confident of arresting the accused soon.
This tragic case has shocked the Bhavnagar community, highlighting how domestic disputes can spiral into extreme violence. Locals have urged authorities to ensure swift justice for the victim and his family.
