Heavy Rain Forecast for Saurashtra-Kutch

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain forecast for Saurashtra-Kutch and other regions of Gujarat in the coming days. According to the latest update, rainfall activity is expected to intensify between October 3 and October 9, with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds likely to hit coastal areas.

Monsoon Withdrawal but Showers to Continue

While the monsoon withdrawal line has already reached Veraval and Bharuch, signaling the retreat of rains from these areas, several parts of Gujarat will continue to witness showers. Ahmedabad, in particular, is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by cloudy skies. Weather experts highlight that the active system over the Arabian Sea is the main reason behind these unseasonal rains.

Fishermen Warned to Stay Away from Sea

Dr. A.K. Das, Director of the Meteorological Department, has issued a strict advisory for fishermen. They have been asked not to venture into the sea for the next five days, as wind speeds are likely to reach 40–50 kmph along the Gujarat coast. In the past 24 hours, LCS-3 has been hoisted at Veraval and other ports, while DC-1 signal has been issued along the southern coastline. This indicates the threat of dangerous sea conditions.

Deep Depression to Intensify into Cyclone

The Arabian Sea is currently witnessing the formation of a deep depression. Meteorologists warn that this system could intensify into a cyclonic storm within the next 24 hours. Once it transforms into a severe cyclonic storm, western parts of Gujarat, especially coastal belts of Saurashtra and Kutch, may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning.

Western Gujarat on Alert

With the possibility of the weather system strengthening into a severe cyclonic storm, the IMD has placed western Gujarat on alert. The prediction suggests that regions like Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Kutch, and Dwarka could be affected by strong winds and heavy rainfall. Residents of low-lying areas have been advised to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy downpours.

Rainfall Due to Multiple Weather Systems

Apart from the active depression over the Arabian Sea, another depression near Odisha is also influencing Gujarat’s weather. Due to its presence, light showers are expected across different parts of the state. However, as the withdrawal line has already passed Veraval and Bharuch, rainfall activity will gradually decline in those regions.

Outlook for the Coming Days

In the next 7 days, Gujarat is likely to see mixed weather conditions. While some regions will experience heavy rain and thunderstorms, others may get only light drizzles. Ahmedabad will continue to have light to moderate showers, while the coastal belts of Saurashtra and Kutch remain under close watch due to the approaching storm.

The IMD’s latest heavy rain forecast for Saurashtra-Kutch highlights the importance of safety measures during this period. With rough seas, strong winds, and the possibility of cyclonic activity, people living along the coastline and fishermen are urged to follow official advisories strictly.
