Jamnagar, Gujarat – Saurashtra’s longest flyover, stretching 3.5 kilometers across Jamnagar city, is now fully ready after nearly four years of construction. Built at a total cost of ₹226 crore, the modern overbridge showcases the use of the latest engineering technology. The final touches — including painting yellow-black-white safety stripes, installing road reflectors, and setting up service lanes and parking areas below the bridge — are currently underway. According to official sources, the much-awaited inauguration ceremony is likely to take place within the next ten days, as final preparations are in progress.

A New Landmark for Jamnagar’s Urban Development

The newly completed Jamnagar flyover, which began construction in August 2021, marks a significant milestone in the city’s infrastructure development. Funded by the state government, the project aims to ease traffic congestion and provide smooth connectivity between Subhash Bridge and Saat Rasta — two of the busiest points in the city.

The state government had allocated ₹197 crore for the project, which eventually expanded to ₹226 crore after additional facilities were included. Built with precision, the 3,450-meter-long structure rests on 139 sturdy concrete pillars, ensuring strength and durability even under heavy urban traffic.

Smart Design with Ramps and Wide Four-Lane Roads

The Jamnagar flyover stands out not just for its length but also for its well-thought-out design. The main bridge is 15 meters wide, offering a four-lane roadway that allows vehicles to move in both directions without bottlenecks.

To enhance accessibility, the bridge includes two two-track ramps — one between Saat Rasta and Oshwal Centre on Indira Marg, and another near the second main gate of Oshwal Centre on Khambhalia Road. Additionally, another ramp has been built near the Jada Building close to Saat Rasta Circle, ensuring convenient entry and exit points for local traffic.

Modern Amenities Under the Flyover: Parking, Food Zone, and Civic Center

While the upper structure will handle vehicular traffic, the space beneath the flyover is being transformed into a functional and community-friendly zone. The Jamnagar Municipal Corporation is developing paid parking areas, a food zone, and a game zone under various sections of the bridge.

In addition, a Civic Service Center will be established below the flyover to provide citizens with access to key municipal services. This multi-use approach ensures that the underbridge area is utilized effectively — reducing congestion, creating public amenities, and enhancing urban aesthetics.

Advanced Technology and Safety Features

Engineers have applied some of the latest bridge-building technologies in the construction of this project. Safety has been a top priority — with modern reflectors, safety markings, and bright LED lighting already installed across the flyover. These measures will ensure better visibility at night and minimize the risk of accidents.

Moreover, the entire structure has been tested for stability and endurance, ensuring it can withstand both high traffic volumes and harsh weather conditions.

Boost to Connectivity and Local Economy

Once inaugurated, the Jamnagar flyover is expected to bring significant relief to daily commuters by reducing travel time and decongesting key intersections in the city. For residents and traders alike, smoother road connectivity will mean faster transport of goods and better access to markets.

Local businesses around Subhash Bridge, Saat Rasta, and Oshwal Centre are likely to see a surge in activity due to improved accessibility. The addition of parking and commercial facilities under the flyover is also expected to boost the local economy and create new job opportunities for residents.

With the painting, lighting, and safety installations almost done, the official inauguration of the flyover is expected within the next 10 days. Once open, this project will not only become a proud addition to Jamnagar’s skyline but also a symbol of modern urban progress in Saurashtra.

Built at a cost of ₹226 crore, supported by cutting-edge technology, and designed with both mobility and community use in mind, the bridge represents the future of urban planning in Gujarat.

When opened to the public, this grand structure will not only ease traffic but also stand as a shining example of Jamnagar’s journey towards becoming a smarter, more connected city.
