Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh – On the solemn occasion of UP Police Memorial Day, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid heartfelt tribute to the brave police officers who laid down their lives in the line of duty. Speaking at the event held at the Reserve Police Lines in Lucknow, he described the sacrifice of police personnel as an “invaluable treasure of the state and the nation” that can never be forgotten.
The annual UP Police Memorial Day ceremony is observed to honor the courage, commitment, and ultimate sacrifice of police officers who have died protecting the public. This year’s event witnessed emotional tributes, recognition of the police force’s efforts in maintaining law and order, and announcements aimed at the welfare of the families of fallen officers.
Police Sacrifice: A Priceless Asset to the Nation
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that the sacrifices made by police personnel serve as a permanent source of inspiration. “The memories of our martyrs will continue to remind us of discipline, duty, and dedication to public service,” he said during his address. He commended the Uttar Pradesh Police for their exemplary work in strengthening law and order, controlling crime, and ensuring women’s safety even in the most challenging circumstances.
According to the Chief Minister, during the year 2024–25, three brave officers — STF Inspector Sunil Kumar, Head Constable Durgesh Kumar Singh from Jaunpur, and Constable Saurabh Kumar from Gautam Buddha Nagar — laid down their lives while serving the state. “Their sacrifice will forever remain a source of inspiration for generations to come,” he said.
CM Reassures Support for Families of Martyrs
In his address, CM Yogi assured the families of fallen officers that the state government is fully committed to their welfare. “Every effort will be made to ensure that the dependents of our brave martyrs live with dignity and security,” he said.
He shared that the government has provided financial assistance worth ₹30.70 crore to 96 police personnel, including those from central forces and other states originally belonging to Uttar Pradesh. Moreover, 2,511 cases of General Provident Fund (GPF) payments have been completed for retired and deceased officers, while 108 police personnel have been granted advance funds.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the government’s focus on education and scholarships for the children of police officers. A total of 234 meritorious students from police families have been awarded ₹51.10 lakh in scholarships, with an additional ₹1.12 crore sanctioned for future disbursements.
Improved Medical and Financial Benefits for Police Personnel
CM Yogi also detailed several key welfare measures for the police department. Under medical reimbursement, 519 cases have been settled with a total of ₹11.85 crore reimbursed to personnel. Additionally, 170 police employees received ₹6.64 crore from the Life Saving Fund for emergency health expenses.
For families of deceased officers, ₹11.86 crore in insurance benefits has been released to 374 dependents, and another ₹67.76 crore has been disbursed to 124 families through the Bank of Baroda’s Police Salary Package. These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring timely and transparent support for police personnel and their families.

Record Achievements in Recruitment and Training
The Chief Minister proudly noted that Uttar Pradesh has made record progress in police recruitment and training over the past few years. Since 2017, the government has recruited 2.09 lakh police personnel, including 34,000 women officers, demonstrating a strong push for gender inclusion in law enforcement.
In addition, over 1.52 lakh promotions have been granted to officers at various ranks, improving morale and efficiency within the force. Currently, recruitment for 28,154 positions and promotion processes for 2,391 officers are underway, highlighting the ongoing modernization and expansion of the police force.

Before attending the ceremony, CM Yogi Adityanath posted an emotional message on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He wrote,
“The service and dedication of the Uttar Pradesh Police are an ideal example for society. On UP Police Memorial Day, I pay humble tributes to all the immortal martyrs who dedicated their everything in the line of duty.”
Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya also paid tribute on X, writing,
“The courage, devotion, and sacrifice of our police personnel are an inspiration to all. We bow to those who laid down their lives to protect the people of the state.”
