150th birth anniversary celebrations of Birsa Munda

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lead the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Birsa Munda on November 15 as part of the nationwide observance of Janjati Gaurav Diwas. The state-level event will take place at Dediapada in Narmada district, where the Prime Minister will unveil and lay foundation stones for major development projects worth ₹8,400 crore.

The announcement was made by state government spokesperson Jitu Vaghani on Wednesday after a detailed review meeting in Gandhinagar. The large-scale celebrations are being positioned as one of the most significant national tributes to freedom fighter and tribal icon Birsa Munda.

PM Modi to Lead Key State-Level Ceremony

According to the state government, the Prime Minister will preside over the official ceremony in Dediapada, while ministers, MLAs, and senior officials will attend parallel events and celebrations across other districts. The observance of Janjati Gaurav Diwas aims to honor the contribution of tribal communities to India’s freedom struggle and cultural heritage.

Officials confirmed that PM Modi is also likely to visit the Devmogra Mata Temple during his trip, adding a cultural and spiritual dimension to the day’s itinerary.

Mass Participation in Ongoing Janjati Gaurav Yatras

The government reported that more than 5.95 lakh people have already participated in the ongoing Janjati Gaurav Yatras, which started from Ambaji and Umargam and are progressing towards Ekta Nagar. These yatras aim to spread awareness about tribal culture, regional development efforts, and the legacy of Birsa Munda.

The yatras, which have received an enthusiastic response across multiple districts, are scheduled to conclude at Ekta Nagar on November 13 ahead of the central event.

Large-Scale Public Welfare Activities Planned

As part of the wider observance of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Birsa Munda, several public-focused activities will be held between November 13 and 15. These include:

  • Service Camps (Seva Setu)
  • Health Camps
  • Cleanliness Drives (Swachhta Initiatives)
  • Cultural Performances and Educational Plays Based on Birsa Munda’s Life

According to official data, the yatra features:

  • 82 health camps
  • 51 Seva Setu camps
  • Cleanliness campaigns at over 2,500 locations

These initiatives are designed to strengthen community engagement and ensure that the celebrations reach every corner of the state, including 20 non-tribal districts.

Special Cultural Events to Honor Birsa Munda’s Legacy

A key highlight of the celebrations will be a grand theatrical presentation narrating the life, struggles, and influence of Birsa Munda. This special program will take place at Ekta Nagar on November 15, attracting thousands of attendees, including tribal community representatives from across Gujarat.

Birsa Munda — revered as “Dharti Aaba” — is celebrated for igniting tribal resistance against oppressive colonial policies in the late 19th century. His courage, reformist vision, and commitment to the rights of tribal communities continue to inspire generations across India.
