50 Schools Built by Kutch Samatra Community in Kenya
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Swami Madhavpriyadasji, President of SGVP, who formally opened the school to the public. The event saw the participation of prominent community leaders, including K. Saltwala Kanajibhai Varsani, members of the Samatra group, local Members of Parliament, religious leaders from the Christian community, school principals, and dedicated teaching staff.
Visiting the Old School: Understanding the Need
Before the inauguration, Swamiji and the donors personally inspected the old school, which was in a deplorable condition. The previous structure consisted of only two or three classrooms, built with thin wooden planks and mud walls. Holes in the walls were common, and windows were practically nonexistent. Even blackboards were improvised from empty cement bags, and students had to learn alphabets and arithmetic formulas under extremely challenging conditions.
There were no benches, let alone computers, highlighting the stark lack of basic educational facilities. According to Swamiji, “Even in the poorest areas of Gujarat, schools rarely exist in such a dilapidated state. This was truly heartbreaking.”
This scenario is not unique to a single village. Across Kenya, hundreds of remote villages face similar challenges, where children struggle to access even the most basic education facilities. Recognizing this urgent need, the Kutch Samatra community committed to constructing 50 schools across Kenya, targeting remote and underserved villages.
Sponsorship and Community Support
The generous efforts of families such as K. Saltwala Kanajibhai Varsani and his wife, Dhanbai, have been instrumental in bringing this initiative to life. Their family has sponsored 10 out of the 50 schools, while the construction of 29 schools has already been completed.
The process involves careful selection of remote villages that lack even basic amenities like clean water. Building schools in such areas is a challenging and demanding task, yet the community’s unwavering dedication has made it possible.
Members of the Kutch Samatra Friends Association, including Devshibhai Vishram Varsani, Dineshbhai Dhanji Varsani, Manjibhai Harji Varsani, Meghjibhai Velji Varsani, Meghji Karsan Varsani, Bhimji Gopal Varsani, and Lalji Karsan Varsani, have collectively mobilized resources and worked tirelessly to ensure the successful completion of these schools.

During the inauguration ceremony, Swami Madhavpriyadasji praised all donors for their unwavering support and charitable work. He said,
“You all remember your homeland, India, but at the same time, you are serving your karma land, Kenya, with immense dedication. Witnessing the transition from the old, dilapidated school to this new eight-classroom school is truly heartwarming. To the children and the community, this new school feels like heaven on earth.”
The swamiji’s words reflected the profound impact of these initiatives, not only in terms of infrastructure but also in fostering hope, inspiration, and access to quality education for the children of Kenya.
