Modi Launches Farm Schemes

New Delhi: Modi launches farm schemes: In a landmark move aimed at strengthening agriculture and supporting farmers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched two new schemes — PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana and the Pulse Self-Reliance Mission. These initiatives are designed to promote self-reliance in the farming sector and improve the welfare of millions of farmers across India.

Addressing a special Krishi programme in the national capital, PM Modi emphasized that these schemes would “change the fate of Indian farmers” and contribute significantly to the country’s agricultural development.

Two Major Schemes Launched for Farmers’ Welfare

PM Modi highlighted the purpose of the two new schemes:

  1. PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana: A comprehensive initiative integrating 36 government schemes to improve crop yield, enhance farming efficiency, and provide farmers with easier access to loans and investment opportunities.
  2. Pulse Self-Reliance Mission: A mission focused on boosting pulse production, ensuring nutritional security, and empowering future generations.

The Prime Minister described these schemes as critical steps for both farmers’ welfare and India’s self-reliance, saying, “Today, for the country’s self-reliance and farmers’ welfare, we are launching these two important schemes. They will change the fate of millions of farmers in India.”

Reforming Agriculture for the 21st Century

PM Modi noted that agriculture has always been a backbone of India’s development. He pointed out that previous governments often neglected the farming sector, leaving it to fend for itself, which weakened its overall potential.

“For India in the 21st century to achieve rapid development, it was necessary to reform its agricultural system. Since 2014, our continuous effort has been to empower farmers and increase investment in agriculture,” the Prime Minister said.

He also stressed the government’s ongoing reforms, which cover everything from seeds to markets, ensuring that farmers receive better support, improved technology, and higher returns.

PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana: A Step Towards Integrated Farming

Under the PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, 100 districts have been selected based on three key parameters:

  • Crop yield per field
  • Frequency of farming in the same field
  • Availability of financial support such as loans and investment options

“This scheme aims to integrate 36 existing government programs to provide a unified platform for farmers. It will help increase efficiency and improve productivity in agriculture,” PM Modi explained.

The initiative is expected to benefit farmers by providing them better access to resources, modern farming techniques, and a structured plan to improve crop yield and income.

Pulse Self-Reliance Mission: Promoting Nutrition and Sustainability

The Pulse Self-Reliance Mission, also known as Dalhan Aatmnirbharta Mission, was launched with an investment of Rs. 11,440 crore. PM Modi highlighted that this mission is not only about increasing pulse production but also about ensuring a protein-rich diet for vegetarians, promoting health, and strengthening the nation’s nutritional security.

“While wheat and rice can satiate hunger, nutrition is equally important. Pulses play a crucial role in providing protein for vegetarians, and this mission will ensure their increased production,” the Prime Minister said.

The mission also focuses on empowering future generations by promoting sustainable agriculture practices and encouraging innovation in the cultivation of pulses.

Focus on Self-Reliance in Agriculture

PM Modi reiterated the government’s commitment to making India self-reliant in agriculture. Both schemes — PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana and the Pulse Self-Reliance Mission — aim to reduce dependency on imports, enhance farmers’ income, and strengthen rural livelihoods.

He emphasized that the government’s role is to support farmers through reforms, technology, and financial incentives rather than leaving them to face challenges alone.

“For a strong India, we need strong farmers. These schemes are designed to empower farmers and ensure that agriculture continues to be a key driver of the nation’s growth,” PM Modi added.

Integrated Approach for Farmer Empowerment

The launch of these schemes reflects a holistic approach to agricultural development. By integrating multiple programs under one framework, the government aims to reduce complexity, improve resource utilization, and provide comprehensive support to farmers.

Experts believe that this integrated approach will help farmers plan their crop cycles more effectively, access financial support more easily, and achieve better yields and profits.

These initiatives are expected to transform the agricultural sector, boost self-reliance, and ensure a better livelihood for millions of farmers.

The Prime Minister’s vision reflects the government’s commitment to making agriculture a modern, sustainable, and profitable sector, while also promoting nutritional security and rural development.

As India moves forward in its journey of growth and self-reliance, these schemes will play a crucial role in empowering farmers, enhancing productivity, and securing the nation’s future.
