Ahmedabad Metro Timings Adjusted for Diwali Celebrations
In view of the upcoming Diwali festival, the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) has announced a temporary change in Ahmedabad Metro timings. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the metro system and passengers amid the heavy use of fireworks during the festive evening.
According to official information, on October 20, metro services across all stations will operate with three hours less than the usual schedule. This move aims to prevent any possible damage to metro infrastructure caused by the intense fireworks display and increased smoke in the atmosphere during Diwali night.

GMRC’s Commitment to Passenger Safety
The Ahmedabad Metro has become an essential mode of transport for daily commuters in the city. GMRC’s proactive decision to reduce operating hours reflects its commitment to passenger safety and system protection. With the risk of firework debris and smoke near metro lines and stations, the shortened schedule ensures the network remains secure and efficient during the festive evening.
Officials emphasized that this change is temporary and specifically designed for October 20, 2025, to coincide with the main Diwali celebration. GMRC has also urged passengers to follow all safety guidelines and cooperate with authorities during this period.
Ahmedabad Metro: A Symbol of Gujarat’s Urban Growth
Since its inception, the Gujarat Metro Rail Project has emerged as a symbol of urban development and modern infrastructure in the state. In 2025, the project continues to set new milestones in passenger growth and operational excellence.
Initially, Ahmedabad Metro served around 35,000 passengers per day, but the number has now increased to 1.5 lakh daily riders, showing the city’s growing dependence on sustainable public transport. To date, more than 10.38 crore passengers have traveled on the metro — a remarkable figure that highlights its popularity and reliability among residents.
Record-Breaking Performance and Efficiency
GMRC’s operational record is another testament to its success. The Ahmedabad Metro has maintained 99.84% on-time performance, making it one of the most punctual metro systems in India. The corporation continues to invest in advanced safety systems, eco-friendly practices, and passenger comfort initiatives.
As Diwali lights up the city, GMRC’s thoughtful decision ensures that celebrations continue safely while keeping the metro network secure for all.
Key Takeaway
The Ahmedabad Metro timings changed for Diwali to prioritize safety and passenger convenience. Metro services will end three hours earlier than usual on October 20, and normal operations will resume the next day. Passengers are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly and enjoy a safe and eco-friendly Diwali celebration.
