The ceremony began with Naresh Patel, the newly appointed Minister for Tribal Development, taking his official charge. The ceremonial proceedings were marked by traditional rituals, including the symbolic drawing of a Swastik with vermilion on the office table by Rewaba Jadeja, accompanied by prayers for prosperity and success. Rewaba Jadeja’s husband, Ravindra Jadeja, and daughter Nidhyanaba were also present during this spiritual observance.
Diwali and New Year Schedule at Secretariat
In celebration of Diwali and the New Year, the Gujarat Secretariat will remain on holiday until October 26. From October 27, the newly formed government under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel is set to be fully operational. To welcome the new ministers, festive arrangements have been made at Swarnim Sankul 1 and 2 in Gandhinagar, reflecting the state’s tradition of honoring leadership transitions with ceremonial grandeur.
Harsh Sanghvi Becomes Deputy Chief Minister
Harsh Sanghvi was the first to take the oath, officially becoming the Deputy Chief Minister. Previously serving as the State Minister for Home Affairs, Sanghvi’s elevation reflects his growing political prominence. Following him, other ministers including Jitu Vaghani, Naresh Patel, Arjun Modhwadia, Pradyumn Vaja, and Raman Solanki took their oaths as cabinet ministers. Additionally, state-level ministers with independent charge, including Ishwarsinh Patel, Praful Panseria, and Dr. Manisha Vakil, were sworn in during the ceremony.
Ministers for Labor, Employment, and State Affairs
Several key ministers took their positions during this cabinet formation. Kanti Amrutia assumed charge as Minister for Labor and Employment, while others including Ramesh Katara, Darshanaben Vaghela, Kaushik Vekaria, Praveen Mali, Jayram Gamit, Trikam Chhaga, Sanjay Mahida, Kamlesh Patel, P.C. Baranda, Swaroopji Thakor, and Rewaba Jadeja were sworn in as state ministers. In a significant move, all newly inducted ministers took their oath holding the Bhagavad Gita, symbolizing the integration of moral and spiritual values into governance.
Composition of the New Cabinet
The new cabinet under Bhupendra Patel consists of 26 ministers, including the Chief Minister himself. The composition reflects social and regional diversity, with 7 Patidars, 8 OBCs, 3 SCs, and 4 STs, alongside 3 women in the council. This inclusive approach aims to address the aspirations of various communities and strengthen governance across the state. The first cabinet meeting was held yesterday at 5 PM at Swarnim Sankul 1, where portfolios were officially distributed and key policy priorities discussed.
Absentees and Communications
Notably, Rishikesh Patel, Kanu Desai, and Kunwarji Bavaliya were absent from the oath ceremony as they had not submitted their resignations in time. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel personally contacted the repeat ministers to ensure they were ready to take their oaths, emphasizing unity and coordination within the government. Additionally, Gujarat BJP President Jagdish Vishwakarma reached out to the new ministers, officially informing them about their appointments and urging them to assume their responsibilities diligently.
