Patidar Couple Attacked in Devaliya Village Bhavnagar: A shocking case has emerged from Devaliya village in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, where an elderly Patidar farmer couple was allegedly assaulted over a land dispute. The disturbing incident has sparked widespread anger across the Patidar community, especially among families settled in Surat with roots in Saurashtra.

To express solidarity and demand strict legal action, a convoy of nearly 30 cars left Surat and reached Devaliya village on the morning of November 21, where community members and local villagers gathered for a public dialogue (“Lok Samvad”).

Surat Patidar Community Supports Victims in Devaliya

For decades, thousands of families from Saurashtra have made Surat their workplace, while elderly parents continue living in their native villages. In the last year, several cases of crimes and harassment against Patidar families living alone in rural Saurashtra have come to light.

The attack on the elderly Patidar couple in Devaliya village over a dispute of a residential plot has now become the flashpoint. The Surat Patidar community decided that such incidents cannot be ignored anymore and resolved to collectively fight for justice.

In the early hours of November 21, a group of Patidars and supporters drove from Surat to Devaliya in 30 cars. Upon reaching the village, they met the victim family, offering emotional support and assurance that they were not alone in this fight.

Massive Turnout at “Lok Samvad” – More Than 200 Locals Participate

Later the same day, at 3:30 PM, a “Lok Samvad” (public dialogue) programme was organized in Devaliya village to address farmers’ safety and rising intimidation incidents in rural areas.
Police officials from Bhavnagar District also attended the gathering.

More than 200 villagers from Devaliya and surrounding rural areas joined the meeting to stand with the victim family, demonstrating a clear message:
The community will not tolerate harassment of elderly farmers living alone.

According to participants, the gathering was aimed at building direct communication between villagers, law enforcement, and community leaders to ensure safety, justice and social harmony.

Victim Prabhaben Recounts the Assault: “They slapped me, and one of them hit me with a stick”

During the event, victim Prabhaben, who was assaulted along with her husband, described the shocking experience:

“They kept saying — do whatever you want, even if we have to spend 20 years in jail we will take this plot. They dragged my husband outside and beat him. When I ran to help him, they slapped me twice and one man hit me with a stick. When our grandmother tried to intervene, she was pushed as well. We only want lawful action against these people.”

Her testimony left the crowd emotional and furious, further intensifying demands for justice.

“The motive was to terrorize villagers”: Community Leader Vijay Mangukiya

Community leader Vijay Mangukiya, who traveled from Surat, addressed the gathering, saying:

“Across Saurashtra, there are many elderly parents living alone while their children work in metros like Surat and Mumbai. Unscrupulous antisocial elements exploit this situation and harass them. Today, people from Surat, nearby villages, sarpanches, and representatives from several districts have gathered to offer strength to the family. This attack on the Patidar couple is not just a personal dispute — it appears to be an attempt to frighten the entire village.”

Mangukiya added that the community will continue to stand united until the legal system delivers justice.
